For immediate release – Vancouver, January, 2012 – Katrin Bowen and Darren Reiter (Amazon Falls) and in association with Purple Productions  and Bowen Arrow Productions Inc. are pleased to announce that production of the feature film ‘Random Acts of Romance‘ will start filming on January 30, 2012 in Vancouver with Brendan Uegama (Monster Brawls) as DP.  Sex, abduction, stalking… and that’s just the first date! Random Acts of Romance is a clever, insightful, and hilarious fast-paced comedy about modern relationships and the downright bizarre ways people express love. Principal photography runs from January 30th to February 17th in Vancouver for this sexy romp written by Jillian Mannion, Kevin McComiskie & Katrin Bowen.

DAVID (Robert Moloney -The Odds) and HOLLY (Laura Bertram -Andromeda) are rich newlyweds who should be in love. When Holly accidentally runs over BUD (Katherine Isabelle -Endgame), a pot-smoking lesbian, who questions the couple’s passion for each other, she realizes that perhaps her marriage isn’t working. Meet MATT (Zak Santiago -Amazon Falls, V)  and DIANNE (Amanda Tapping -Stargate, Sanctuary), the couple who met in college. Dianne was Matt’s teacher but it’s not going well now.  After a stoned conversation with his best friend, BUD, Matt goes all out to win back his wife but she’s more interested in RICHARD (Ted Whittall -Once Upon A Time), the heartless,  attractive millionaire who lives next door to BUD. Richard catches the eye of   David’s secretary, LYNNE (Sonja Bennett-Young People F**cking), a timid girl who likes to stalk. Yes, Random Acts of Romance will take the audience on a sexual joy ride.

At the helm is visionary director Katrin Bowen. Based out of Vancouver, Katrin’s first feature film, Amazon Falls, debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival (2010) to glowing reviews.  Katrin went on to win both the Best Debut Feature Award at the Female Eye Film Festival and the 2011 Artistic Achievement Award from Women in Film.  Amazon Falls garnered the 2011 Leo Award for Best Female Performance.   Katrin looks forward to bringing her passion for storytelling to her second feature Random Acts of Romance.

“Amazon Falls” returns to the Denman Cinema for one night only, Friday July 29 at 7 pm.  The Denman will be screening on the cinema’s brand new projector, so please join us for a great viewing of this award winning film by Katrin Bowen.

Due to masonry falling off the building next to the Cinéma Parallèle in Montreal, our theatrical screenings have been pushed to July 8-10 at 9:30 pm.  Thankfully, no one was hurt.

“Amazon Falls” won the Best Debut Feature at the 2011 Female Eye Film Festival.Director Co-producer Katrin Bowen was a recipient of the Women in the Director’s chair feature film award and was recently bestowed with the Women In Film & Television 16th Annual Artistic Achievement Award.

Lead Actor April Telek won the VIFF 2010 Artistic Merit Award and the 2011 Leo Award for best female lead performance in a feature film.

Amazon Falls had its festival premiere at the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival in September 2010 with three sold-out showings  Critical response to the film was overwhelmingly positive with Chris Alexander of Metro Canada calling it ” groovy, scrappy and unpretentious little Vancouver shot serio-comedy, Amazon Falls, is the kind of offbeat, oddball low budget opus that gives Canadian film a good name and Mark Teo- FFWD”At times deliriously odd, at times painfully gritty, and at times drop-dead hilarious this is an incredible feature debut”  The film came in Canada’s top ten at the Vancouver International Film Festival.

Every year the Leo Awards manages to bring a big dose of Hollywood glamour to the city. This past weekend, it was once again “lights, camera and action” time at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

Complete with red carpet arrivals, movie stars and local industry heavies, this night is all about honouring BC’s best in the film and television industry.
I’ve often called it the British Columbia Oscars, but it’s really much more important because this is where those big careers start and the quality of products that are produced here is absolutely top notch.

The biggest round of applause, however, goes out to the North Shore’s own Walter Daroshin and Sonny Wong.
Without these business partners/producers, the Leo Awards simply wouldn’t exist.

6) Alberta born Tantoo Cardinal is no stranger to the big Hollywood screen. Recognized mostly for her work in Dances with Wolves and Moccasin Flats, she can next be seen in the upcoming drama Shouting Secrets.
7) He only acts mean. Actor Mackenzie Gray, known better as Lex Luthor on Smallville, is seen here posing with the Leo trophy models on the red carpet.
Stunningly beautiful and all grown up from her 2007 win, Alexia Fast takes home another Leo Award for her supporting role in Repeaters.
9) Always elegant and lovely, the amazing Amanda Tapping, who also lives in West Vancouver, poses with her dynamic Sanctuary co-star Ryan Robbins.

Telek was awarded Best Lead Performance by a Female in a Feature Length Drama, for Amazon Falls.
